After hearing Obama’s address yesterday, I decided that we and Obama have a lot in common: the “Bridge to Work” program, a major component of Obama’s proposed American Jobs Act, is billed to help job-seekers take temporary and voluntary work and receive on-the-job training. Doesn’t that sound a lot like the work we’ve done with our Learning and Development Advisors, who match workers with appropriate training? Or through our study with The Collegiate Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development, where we linked Military Occupation Specialty codes to positions and training programs in the advanced manufacturing industry? It’s great that the Obama administration understands just how crucial these kinds of programs are – our economy needs the employment pathways that these programs have to offer.
