Benchmarking Study on Best Practices for Serving Adult Learners:
Through the comprehensive benchmarking screening process,
the following six colleges and universities were selected
as "best practice" institutions for CAEL’s
1999 Benchmarking Study:
Athabasca University, Athabasca, Alberta, Canada
School of New Resources, College of New Rochelle, New York,
New York
The School for New Learning, DePaul University, Chicago,
Illinois
Empire State College (SUNY), Saratoga Springs, New York
Marylhurst University, Marylhurst, Oregon
Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio
It should be noted that a "best practice" institution
is not synonymous with the "world’s best"
institution. Every institution faces challenges and strives
for improvement in many areas. This is true of the "best
practice" institutions in this study.
However, in these six colleges and universities CAEL found
the most comprehensively effective practices in serving adult
learners. These colleges and universities offer inspiration
and lessons to other institutions that strive to serve the
fastest growing population of college students today.
