Organization/Program |
Advanced Aerospace Manufacturing Education Project |
Program Purpose |
Developing curricula to meet the needs of aerospace manufacturing for technicians and engineers |
Program Description |
Researchers from four higher education institutions are working together to assess the current and future needs of aerospace manufacturing for technicians and engineers, assess current educational offerings for two-year programs, and develop curricula to address any unmet needs. Aerospace manufacturing suppliers are supporting the project by allowing the researchers access to topic experts and entry-level engineers and technicians. The resulting curriculum will be shared with other higher education institutions. The researchers from the participating institutions are also working with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) in the development of an SME Certified Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer exam. |
Progress |
This project is a recent recipient of a grant from the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technology Centers programs. The ATE program is focused on meeting the educational needs of technicians in high technology fields. Grants are awarded to partnerships between academic institutions and employers to promote improvement in the education of science and engineering programs at the undergraduate and secondary school levels. |
