Name |
CNA-to-LPN Program |
Program Purpose |
To ensure the development and skill building of new Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). |
Program Description |
As part of a larger effort to build a multi-tiered nursing career lattice, this multi-site, long term care organization has worked with CAEL to develop a CNA apprenticeship program (funded in part through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor). A mentoring component allows experienced CNAs to gain supervisory and coaching skills while helping to build the confidence and skill level of new CNA apprentices. |
Progress |
The program has enrolled 170 apprentices from 16 facilities in 10 states; 80 of these have enrolled in or completed Mentor training. After the implementation of the training, the retention rate among CNAs is 72% (as compared to Good Samaritan’s overall retention rate of 51%.) |
