Adult Education Graduate Program Assistant or Associate Professor of Adult Education
The Indiana University Graduate Online Program in Adult Education seeks to fill a fulltime, tenure track vacancy. The academic appointment will be made at either the rank of assistant or associate, depending on the experience and publication level of the successful candidate. The appointment may begin as early as May 1, 2010 with summer teaching responsibilities, but should be no later than August 1, 2010 to enter fulltime teaching, advising and research. Online teaching is a major element of this position with at least two graduate-level courses each semester. Research with an appropriate national publication and presentation record will be expected to be compiled in order to meet tenure and promotion requirements of a major research university. The office and academic record for this position is at the Indianapolis campus which also houses national programs in medicine, informatics, education, engineering and law. The Adult Education masters program has been part of the School of Continuing Studies since 1996 and has awarded nearly 200 degrees. The program is delivered online. Substantial student enrollment growth is anticipated for the coming two years as recruitment of graduate students beyond Indiana will be a primary focus. The program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
An applicant must provide evidence of successful accomplishments and include: 1) an earned doctorate and research agenda in areas related to adult education, informal learning, instructional systems technology, higher education administration, or other appropriate academic content; 2) experience in advising graduate students or other situations in which the applicant has worked with adult learners; 3) commitment to national association service and leadership; and 4) successful online course development and delivery. Additional preferred areas of interest and success include grant writing, community engagement and service to adult education learning institutions. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience and will be made as a 10-month appointment allowing for summer teaching pay beyond the base salary.

The Director provides leadership and oversight to adult, professional, and alternative education programs, including planning and program implementation, recruitment and marketing, faculty hiring and evaluation, registration processes, advising and support services. The Director is responsible for increasing program development to include degree programs, non-credit programs, certificate programs, and contracted corporate training, while achieving high levels of innovation and return on investment.
A Master's degree is required, Doctorate preferred. The Assessment Director is responsible for providing the overall direction and leadership of alternative credit programs supported by a portfolio development course and the subsequent portfolio assessment process. The Director is responsible for the integrity of the prior learning assessment program and the process through which prior learning is assessed for college level credit. A high degree of coordination is required with academic departments and shared services to maintain an up-to-date review process enabling the student to earn university credit for knowledge gained outside the traditional classroom.
Responsibilities:
The Assessment Director effectively directs the process through which experiential learning portfolios are developed and assessed for credit as measured by the number and percentage of students participating in, and completing. In this role the Assessment Director is responsible for the management of an appeals process through which students may appeal a denial of credit.
The Assessment Director is responsible for leading the coordination of programs and services which maximize effective collaboration between and among academic and shared service departments, including the Registrar’s Office and the Prior Learning Assessment Center.
The Assessment Director is responsible for developing and maintaining long-range organizational and internal promotional plans for Prior Learning Assessment, including workshops for faculty and staff.
The Assessment Director is responsible for developing and implementing training and mentoring programs designed to provide and assure quality of assessment, including CAEL certification, of faculty and other subject matter experts who are selected to assess experiential learning portfolios and recommend awards of college level credit. Success in this area will be measured by the number of CAEL certified subject matter experts available for use in the portfolio assessment process.
The Assessment Director is responsible for the development and publishing of regular metric reports as needed by the academic leaders and perform analyses to assess institutional effectiveness. Key metrics include the accuracy and timeliness of metric reports and analyses.
The Assessment director is the most senior subject matter expert in the area of experiential learning and Prior Learning Assessment, and as such will develop and nurture a relationship with the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) on behalf of the organization.

(4)ASSISTANT PROFESSOR/COORDINATOR OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

is located 25 miles SW of Chicago.
Overview: This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with significant release time for administrative duties related to program development in the School for Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE). It is a twelve month position and the coordinator reports to the Dean of the SPCE.
Responsibilities: - Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
- Work effectively with faculty, administrative personnel, and subject matter experts to develop high quality curricula to be offered in accelerated, online, blended and on-ground delivery formats for new and existing degree, certificate and training programs.
- Serve as the coordinator of the Prior Learning Assessment program administered by the School; work with faculty and adult program directors/coordinators of the Colleges to serve adult students pursuing Prior Learning Assessment.
- Assist the Dean with projects related to assessment and other areas of academic affairs.
- Represent the SPCE on committees as assigned.
- Collaborate with SPCE personnel for implementing the mission and strategic plan for the SPCE.
Qualifications: Applicant must have a master's degree in curriculum and instruction, higher education administration, or instructional design or formal training and experience in curriculum development for college/university degree programs; related doctorate degree is desirable. Experience teaching in and/or developing a degree program utilizing distance learning and instructional technology is highly desirable. College teaching experience is required; college administrative experience is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed.

Overview: The Chair is responsible for the leadership and management of the Adult Accelerated Program (AAP), including strategic planning, curriculum coordination and some development, budgeting, selection/supervision/development of adjunct faculty and staff, and program evaluation. The Chair is responsible for supervision of all functions related to the daily efficient operation and strategic development of the program. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Business and Communication.
Position Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills a must.
- A minimum of a Master’s degree, terminal degree preferred in an appropriate academic discipline.
- Five years of prior administrative experience in an adult learning, accelerated programs, continuing education or other relevant area.
- Teaching, scholarship and outstanding service experience, appropriate to the program’s disciplines, will also be considered.
- Desirable competencies include prior experience in faculty development, student recruitment, special projects and in the development of external community relations, leadership skills and management expertise.
- Equivalency for other qualifications may be made at the discretion of the President, the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of the College of Business and Communication.
