Online Alliances

Education has never played a bigger role in the economic vitality of people and organizations than it does today. In many cases, the increased demand for skilled workers has affected entire industries. In response, CAEL has been at the forefront of developing innovative solutions to address this need, by designing, coordinating and implementing industry sponsored degree programs.

CAEL’s Industry-Led Online Alliances bring together a consortium of labor, business and higher education These programs encourage participation in intensive, industry-specific skills training, both among current industry workers and those individuals wishing to enter the field. CAEL has led the development of national industry-wide learning initiatives in two major industry sectors—telecommunications and utilities.

  • Each initiative creates online learning options to address critical employment needs with programs that target both incumbent workers and those new to the industry.
  • Each is led by a national coalition that includes employers, industry associations, and unions.
  • Each initiative works closely with leading online educational providers.
  • The guiding principle for this work is: “By the Industry – For the Industry”

Early development Industry-Led Online Alliances was supported by the
Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
