As we’ve discussed, providing a career path and forming the right partnerships are great ways to promote talent from within. Following these best practices, Gap Inc. has announced that it’s expanding its This Way Ahead initiative, a program which provides paid internships to teenagers and young adults. The program, which targets people in low-income communities, imparts job experience and life-skills to build a strong foundation for future success.

Gap is a partner of UpSkill America, a national movement to build a skilled workforce and expand economic opportunity for America’s frontline workers.

For Gap, this focus on employee development yields great dividends: Most of the company’s store managers began as entry-level associates within the company.
