Recently, we shared an article from the New York Times that looked at the state of factory jobs and the credentialing now necessary to get them. Factories, it turns out, are now demanding the same level of education attainment that most other well-paying jobs demand. But with a four-year degree not always the best choice to gain the skills necessary for every position, apprenticeships have started to return to the forefront as a viable alternative to a postsecondary degree.

Businesses Place Higher Priority on Hiring Veterans, but there’s Work to Be Done

This week Stars and Stripes shared some promising news about veteran hiring trends in the U.S., courtesy of a new report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes initiative. According to the report, veterans are now among the top three recruiting targets for companies. Large businesses (defined as those with more than 1,000 employees) have made particularly notable efforts to hire veterans, with 90 percent of HR and hiring manager respondents noting that veteran recruitment is important for their businesses.
