WorkingNation Highlights CAEL’s Impact on the State of the Adult Learner

Last week, WorkingNation, a nonprofit campaign dedicated to developing solutions to unify the country to solve workforce issues, highlighted the state of the adult learner and how CAEL is helping higher education institutions, employers, communities and government to meet their needs.

WorkingNation notes the increasing adoption of prior learning assessment (PLA), which helps students earn credit for prior learning. As we recently discussed, PLA serves both adult students and the higher education institutions that are looking to attract them. Given that PLA increases the likelihood of program completion, offering PLA as an option is a strategic solution to issues of attrition that may impede nontraditional students—who often must balance work and family, in addition to their academic obligations—in reaching their academic goals.  

Writer Kristin Falzon spoke with CAEL’s COO Gabi Zolla to highlight eight steps government, colleges and employers can take to assist the adult learner—and, in doing so, strengthen our workforce.
