CAEL and LEARN Commission partner on Credit Mobility Op Ed

Written by Carlo Bertolini | Sep 04, 2025

In 2024, CAEL senior vice president of initiatives and solutions Beth Doyle was named to the Learning Evaluation and Recognition for the Next Generation (LEARN) commission. The commission, formed by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), is dedicated to fostering learning mobility by advocating for the recognition of learning in all its forms.

Doyle, along with fellow commission members Carolyn Gentle-Genitty and Jamienne S. Studley, penned an op ed that appeared last week in Inside Higher Ed. Entitled Working Smarter in the Age of AI, the op ed draws upon CAEL research to argue that improved credit mobility can encourage adult learner enrollment.

That point is part of a broader call to action as short-term credentials and other nontraditional postsecondary pathways proliferate. Amid this trend, the authors argue, there is great potential in improving credit mobility. To realize this potential, the process of credit evaluation must be improved, something that AI can support, the article details. Read the full op ed at Inside Higher Ed.

Note: CAEL’s Credit Mobility Working Group will soon release a white paper on credit mobility that focuses on CPL in transfer. It will be available at cael.org
